Done is better than perfect.
I came across this mantra a number of years ago and find it hugely helpful when I'm battling with my perfectionist tendencies.
I don't like doing low quality work in any area of my life. When I decide to do a thing, I want to produce an exceptional (perfect) end result. Now this might sound great in theory, but when I try to apply this approach to everything I do, it ends up holding me back and wasting my time on making subtle improvements that provide little to no added value to things.
The truth is not everything is worth doing perfectly. The trick is to identify what is. What's most important to you? Where will investing your time and energy deliver the greatest value? What really matters?
Our time is precious and limited. Invest it wisely, and for the things that don't matter, done is better than perfect.
